In this plenary address, Dr. Deegan will discuss historic and contemporary examples of self-directed recovery, including her own experience of recovery from schizophrenia. Dr. Deegan will contrast the disease/disorder model with the recovery/person-centered model of care, will discuss the role of personal medicine in recovery, and will highlight how the workforce must be re-traiend to support recovery.
