Objectives
  1. Attendees will be able to: (a) describe principles of illness management and self-directed recovery; (b) describe successful implementation strategies used by exemplary treatment programs in Hawaii; and (c) apply principles and strategies to their own clinical service setting.
  2. Attendees will be able to use illness management and self-directed recovery techniques in assessment, treatment planning, and intervention when working with persons who have severe and persistent mental illness.
  3. Attendees will be able to describe and apply principles of one or more of the following areas to their clinical practice: (a) Wellness Recovery Action Plans including Crisis Plans; (b) Advance Mental Health Care Directives; (c) the SAMHSA Illness Management and Self-Directed Recovery Tool Kit; (d) Peer Support Interventions; or (e) BRIDGES resources.
  4. Attendees will be able to apply concepts of cultural competency and cultural sensitivity to clinical practice by: (a) recognizing cultural beliefs and values about help-seeking and mental health; and (b) by incorporating demographic factors into assessment, treatment planning, and treatment services.
  5. Attendees will be able to: (a) demonstrate awareness and knowledge of the recovery philosophy; (b) articulate the implications of this philosophy for reshaping patient care; and (c) apply this philosophy in individualized person-centered treatment planning.
