Illness Management and Recovery for Consumers with Severe Mental Illness
Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) is an evidence-based practice aimed at helping consumers develop personal recovery goals and make progress toward achieving those goals in the context of learning how to more effectively manage their illness. This presentation will provide the philosophical and empirical underpinnings of this practice. The concept of recovery will be reviewed, taking into account different definitions and perspectives. Then, the curriculum and logistics of implementing the IMR program will be described, followed by a summary of the research evidence supporting specific practices contained in the program. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of clinical outcomes that are the focus of the IMR program, and a discussion of the avenues of research for addressing the programs effectiveness. |
