Training in the SAMHSA Evidence Based Practices Illness Management Toolkit Part 1 & 2,
Kim Mueser, Ph.D., National Resource Training Center, Dartmouth
Room 304 A and B

This workshop will focus on the practical "how to's" for implementing and delivering the Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) program to persons with severe mental illness. The workshop will begin with a brief overview of the IMR program, and discussion of which consumers are most likely to benefit from participating in it. Next, an organizational structure for delivering the IMR program will be described that specifies the different roles of clinical staff, supervisors, and agency directors. The majority of the workshop will then be spent reviewing the teaching strategies embodied within the IMR program, including motivational, educational, and cognitive-behavioral methods. Videotaped clinical vignettes of the IMR program in action will be shown. Clinical examples will be discussed, and participant role-playing will be encouraged.
