The 1st Annual Best Practices Conference-Innovations in Dual Diagnosis was held at the
Queen's Conference Center in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 20-21, 2004. Attendees included psychiatrists,
psychologists, nurses, and social workers, students, consumers and providers of mental health services,
and their family members. Total attendees exceeded over 215, over 20 of them being consumers of mental
health services. There were a total of 10 attendees from the Pacific Basin islands: Guam, Federated
States of Micronesia, American Samoa, Palau, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, and the Marshall
Islands. Dr. Benjamin Vista and Ms. Josepha Tiobech, gave a talk about Mental Health in Palau and Ms.
Barbara Benevente and Ms. Renata Bordollo spoke about Prevention Works! on Guam. The conference was jointly
sponsored by the Adult Mental Health Division (AMHD) of the State of Hawaii Department of Health
and the Hawaii Consortium for Continuing Medical Education.
