Trauma Informed Systems
Many individuals faced with the challenges of serious mental illness are also likely to have histories of physical, sexual abuse or other trauma experiences. This combination often leads to other complex conditions such as substance abuse problems, eating disorders, re-traumatization and contact with the criminal justice system to name a few.
Therefore, AMHD is taking steps to become a trauma informed system. This means examining every part of our organization such as management, service delivery, personnel, policy development etc, to be adapted to include a basic understanding of how trauma impacts individuals who seek services from any part of our system. Services will be reviewed to see how our approaches may be modified to support individuals instead of unintentionally triggering trauma responses.

Trauma Specific Interventions
Trauma specific interventions are tools and techniques that are used to specifically work with consumers to deal with the consequences of trauma and to partner in their healing process. This is accomplished with the goal of empowering individuals along their recovery path. AMHD will be working with providers in training them and providing technical assistance on identifying and offering treatments that have demonstrated effectiveness in the treatment of trauma.

It is also our intent to make useful information readily available. Below you will find a number of resources regarding Trauma. We plan to continue to post information on understanding, and treating trauma, so please visit us again. The following information is provided for information only.
